Is there a way to send an extended 'ON' command to a switchlinc to see if it supports extended commands or not?
I have a mixture of insteon switchlincs from different years - all the way from first generation to one delivered last week. I have lost track of which ones are installed where in various rooms in the house. Is there a way to query the switch to identify i2 support?
I know you can have powerhome 'autodetect' the switch, but I'm pretty sure it misidentified a brand new switch as a legacy device. Is there a way to send a 'on' command using an extended command that will turn on the light of a newer switch but not turn on the light of an older switch? Or how do you query the switch to report the Iengine?
I just upgraded to 2.1.4 and am working through the changes, trying to understand extended commands.

What kind of i2 support are you looking for, link management or device configuration?
The 0x0D command returns a 00=i1 01=i2 but it does not mean much. Many devices indicate an I2 engine but do not support I2 linking.
The On command is a standard message.

I haven't thought that far ahead. I just did a clean install of 2.1.4, and want to get all my switches entered properly to avoid any potential future issues. I have been manually changing the Iengine column to i2 for some of the newer switches and don't want this to cause any problems down the road.
I thought there might be a way to verify whether a switch was definitively i2 or legacy. I guess I don't fully understand the implications of this choice yet...
