I've got a 2412N that I currently have setup with the
virtual com port plug-in. Firstly, can this version
communicate with that directly without the plugin or is
it only the hub that works that way? I tried and didn't
seem to be able to make it work, but maybe I don't know
what I am doing.
Also, It mostly seems to be working, as I can create
links with other devices, but it doesn't appear that I
can make links on the controller. Is this maybe an I2CS
security issue? The Raw Log shows a lot of "INSTEON EXT
TIMEOUT=1F 57 60" (that's the address of the controller)
Any thoughts?

Hmmm....seems for the second issue, if I change the device
type to "2414S" then they all create fine. Weird.

Travis,
The 2412N (SmartLinc) is now natively supported in PH 2.1.5a without needing to use the virtual COM port. Just set the controller type from Insteon PLM to Insteon SmartLinc in the PH Explorer under PowerHome->Setup->Controllers.
Not sure what the problem would be with links on the controller. PowerHome doesnt create links in the actual PLM/PLC/SmartLinc/Hub using the peek/poke or database commands and instead uses commands specific to the connected controller (but the links should be created). The Add Min and Add Full options on the Setup tab of the Insteon Explorer will automatically create/recreate all controller links.

Thanks Dave. Turns out if you have the serial port add in
you need to disable that as well or it will never connect.
I'm guessing it runs into a conflict when both try to
connect.
Also, when it's setup this way, what should the device type
be in the devices tab of Insteon Explorer?

Travis,
You are correct. You'll definitely want to disable the VSP plugin otherwise it will conflict.
The device type will most likely show as an Insteon PLM. However, you can add a new Insteon Device type (you can duplicate the Insteon PLM entry) and set the name to reflect an Insteon Hub. You can then change the device type in the devices tab to match this new type.
