Hi -I recently sent an Email to Smarthome suggesting they develop an enunciator product (basically a replacement for the X-10 Chime Module, but with multiple patterns triggered by different group commands). Here's what I got back in part from Matt P. ..

"We are currently in development with our HouseLinc 2 software that will be able to access the beeper function in our newer devices so when they are responders, they would be able to beep when triggered. "

Did anyone know about the "beeper" function?

Anyway, I'm concerned that this function will also require the 'extended command' support that Dave refers to here...

but Powerhome doesn't yet support (so you can't configure the INSTEON Motion Sensor as flexibly in PH as you can in HL2).

I just wanted to raise a flag that "extended commands" may become more important in the future, and here's hoping Awesome Powerhome keeps up! 8-}

The ControLinc Beeper can be turned On/Off with SD commands. The newer KPLs have a beeper that acknowledges link mode but I have not seen a command to control it. Also the DB level is such that it would not make much of an enunciator. Perhaps there are commands that affect DB level as well as On/Off that have not been published.
